What causes damage to skin's DNA?
The primary cause of the visible sign of ageing is exposure to sunlight, in particular the Ultraviolet-B (UVB) wavelengths. UVB rays directly damage the DNA of skin cells. When this DNA is first attacked, the skin prompts an immune response to repair the damage. However, years of UVB exposure weaken this immune response, so over time our skin cell DNA becomes irreparably damaged.
